Accessory Dwelling Units

Long Built Homes is so proud to announce that we are now building detached Accessory Dwelling Units known as ADU’s. Thanks to recent changes in Massachusetts law, homeowners can now build one ADU, by right, on most single-family residential lots statewide. That means that in most cases, a special permit from the Zoning Board is no longer required making the process simpler and more straight forward.

An ADU is a fully independent, detached residence that shares the same property as an existing single-family home. These ADU’s can play a significant role in helping address today’s housing shortage while also offering homeowners a wide range of valuable benefits:

For many families, building an ADU is the perfect solution.

Whether you choose to build an ADU on your own property and move into it, or build one on your child’s property, you will enjoy the best of both worlds. An ADU provides the privacy and independence of having a home of your own while giving you the opportunity to downsize, age in place and remain close to family, friends, and everything that brings you comfort and peace of mind.

ADU’s can provide an opportunity to generate rental income to help cover maintenance and repair costs, create a more affordable housing option for adult children or provide space for a caregiver to live nearby offering added convenience and peace of mind.

Under current Massachusetts law, a detached ADU can be up to 900 square feet or up to 50% of the size of the primary home, whichever is smaller. And as with any new construction, building an ADU must comply with all applicable building codes, health regulations, and local zoning requirements. The good news is,  you don’t have to worry about navigating these details. Our sales team is excited to guide you through the entire process and take care of everything from the initial consultation and design to permitting, construction and final completion.

Whether you are looking to downsize, create additional living space for family members, provide housing for a caretaker, generate long-term rental income or simply add flexibility to your property, an ADU can be an outstanding solution.
